Yusuf Ahmed graduated in English literature and studied Photojournalism at South Asian Media Institute, Pathshala. He has always been a person with keen enthusiasm in the field of social documentary photography. He is assigned to cover visual document for national and international projects in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Yusuf completed many photography workshops under internationally reputed photographers like Robert Pledge, Morten Krogvold, Peter Frayer, Trent Park, Roman Bezjak and others.
He did many documentary photography projects as well as conducted several photography workshops around the country. His works have been published in many national and international newspapers and magazines like The Daily Star, The Daily New Nation, Dhaka Courier, The Daily Prothom Alo, The Daily Guardian, The Daily Observer, Development Asia, F-Stop Magazine and People & Planet Diary.
He is the recipient of numerous awards for his work including First Prize at JP’s Prize for Contemporary Photography in Bangladesh, short listed of world’s most prestigious calendar publication One World Calendar, winner of The 73rd International Photographic Salon of Japan, Asahi Simbun, winner of CGAP Microfinance Photo Contest, winner of People & Planet Photo Contest, shortlisted in Garuda Indonesia International Photo contest, Nomination for the Joop Swart Masterclass by World Press Photo Foundation and his work has been selected for The 9th Angkor Photo Festival in Seam Riep, Cambodia.
Currently Yusuf Ahmed has been working as social documentary photographer with NGO BRAC.
