Culture / Gow Daan- The Ritual

Ganga Sagar is an annual fair where devotees congregate to have a dip in the holy river during the makar sankranti and thus relieving themselves of all the worldly sins that they have committed during the life time. So after getting rid of all the sins, the only trouble that one would face after death would be to cross the river Baitarani which separates the world of living and the dead. And who would assist the crossing in a better way than the holi cow- the Gow -mata.
