Culture / Born to Fight

While visiting a village in Bali, I saw two villagers putting their fighting cocks to a test fight. Someone then informed me that they were preparing for a national tournament which held a week after this photo was taken. While this practice is shunned in the western world and considered as animal cruelty, in a place like Bali, this practice is deeply rooted in culture and tradition. Cockfight is a religious obligation at every Balinese temple festival or religious ceremony, and is protected as a cultural heritage.
