People / Life on a Broken Trail

Turuk- a Balti village in Nubra Valley- was located on ancient Leh-Sinkiang Great Caravan Trade Route which was closed during Indo-Pak Partition. For people stranded on either side of the LOC the loss was not only financial, either. Though conditions have improved immensely since Turtuk was opened for tourists a few years ago, older people like Ruzi Mohammed still dream of a reunion with family and friends across the border and a revival of the caravan trade.
