Culture / Feast of The Black Nazarene

The Black Nazarene, also known as Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno (in Spanish), and Poong Itim na Nazareno (in Filipino), is a life-sized black wooden sculpture of Jesus Christ carrying the cross. The only people allowed to ride with The Black Nazarene in the Andas (carriage) are the Marshalls from Quiapo Church. They form an honour guard to protect the Nazarene and to help devotees who wish to briefly touch it during the procession.
