Culture / Cock Fight

Cock fight is a tradition practiced among the Balinese and the Javanese of Indonesia. The Balinese does it as mean of religious ceremony. Geertz in his book "The Interpretation of The Culture" said that it is only allowed the day before the “Day of Silent” (Nyepi) and prohibited in another. It represents the blood sacrificed to the demons to pacify their ravenous and cannibal hunger. The Javanese does it as a hobby. The main activity is bet where the cock serves as instrument for betting.
