Culture / Bromo, the sacred mountain

In east Java, at an altitude of 2392 meters and covering the largest sea of sand caldera, is located the still active Bromo volcano. It is still dwarfed by the nearby Semeru volcano on its Southside though, which at 3676 meters is the highest Javanese/Indonesian volcano. !e characteristic Tengger community display tanned faces and continuously wear sarongs around their bodies, completed by typical headgear skullcaps as an adaptive result to cold mountain temperatures surrounding the region.
