People / Salt harvesting

Hòn Khói, located on Vân Phong Bay, near Dốc Lết resort, is famous for salt. With three sides are contiguous to sea, this region is a saltmarsh where not convenient for cultivation. Perhaps that is a reason for most people here make salt. In Hòn Khói, salt season begins in early of March and ends in September. Salt harvest is the most fun time because this time has many people work together. Digging, raking, piling, and carrying until no more salt in this field, they move to other fields. Their working days usually begin at 3.00 am and only stop when they clear out all salt fields. Although they work under blazing sunlight of the central, they are still happier than they have to see rain. Sunny days are the time to workers work and earn money from salt.
